Fantastic Manganoan "sandwich" Calcite
These crystals are from a new find in 2021. The crystals are prismatic crystals of Calcite with hexagonal shapes and marked zones. And because of their look, they are known as Sandwich Calcites.
Manganoan is a variety of calcite rich in manganese, which gives the mineral a pink color. The pink color is barely visible, in the center between the two zones of white calcite.
The crystals have a great contrast to the grey limestone matrix.
Under long-wave UV light, these Calcites are highly fluorescent with a beautiful rich orange glow.
For this specimen, the layers of the sandwiches are not as sharp as some of the other specimens from this finding. On the other hand, this one has a pattern/layers also in the other direction (seen in the last picture).
This one is very beautiful!
