Diopside in Calcite from Seiland, Finnmark, Norway
Size: 43x62x46 mm (182 gr.)
There are five nice Diopside crystals on the top. Two of them are damaged along the edge. There are also some Diopside crystals at the underside, most of them with some damages. The specimen also got a lot of tiny Grossular (garnet) crystals.
Most of the year the field where the minerals are found is covered with ice and snow, and today this area is now a part of the Seiland National Park, and collecting from this area is now strictly forbidden. This specimen was found in the late 1980's by my father, Gunnar Mathisen.
