Diopside from Bumansfjorden, Seiland, Finnmark, Norway
Size: 40x23x21 mm (26 gr.)
Very big Diopside. Beautiful green color, it is translucent and has a great luster. Double terminated, it got some damages in the bottom.
It has a little deformation in the top. It might look like a damage, but if you study it you will see that it has grown in 2 layers, where one layer is missing in a part of the top (seen on the top to the left, on the first picture).
You will also see there is a couple of tiny cola-brown Grossular crystals grown into the Diopside.

Most of the year the field where the minerals are found is covered with ice and snow, and today this area is now a part of the Seiland National Park, and collecting from this area is now strictly forbidden.
This specimen was found in the late 1980's by my father, Gunnar Mathisen.
