Diopside and Grossular from Bumansfjord, Seiland, Finnmark, Norway
Size: 103x136x46 mm (799 gr.)
This specimen is 800 gram massive Diopside and Grossular (Garnet).
You will see a small white field of white calcite on top, but if you look on the edge you will see that the whole rock is massive grossular/diopside.
You will see that the Diopside is weathered along the edges. The Grossular is mainly damage free, both in the front and the backside. If you use strong light and a magnifying glass you will see that it is beautiful translucent cola-brown grossular.
The stone is not cut, but stands naturally by itself.

This specimen was found in the late 1980's by my father, Gunnar Mathisen.
Most of the year the field where the minerals are found is covered with ice and snow, and today this area is now a part of the Seiland National Park, and collecting from this area is now strictly forbidden.
