Diopside & Grossular on Calcite
Location: Bumansfjorden, Seiland, Finnmark, Norway
Size: 75x101x50 mm (527 gr.)
Two clusters of diopside and grossular (28 and 24 mm) consisting of many smaller diopsides and tinty grossular. On the front you will also see some small diopside crystals (some of them damaged). The diopside at the backside is damaged.
At the underside (seen on the last 3 pictures) there are some very nice and undamaged diopsides with very good quality.
This specimen was found in the late 1980's by my father, Gunnar Mathisen.
Most of the year the field where the minerals are found is covered with ice and snow, and today this area is now a part of the Seiland National Park, and collecting from this area is now strictly forbidden.
